History of Computer Graphics

1960 –

The first video usig CGI was a film called ‘Spacewars’ created by a man called Steve Russel

The first computer generated film was a film created by Edward Zajac

The first use of CGI in an advert was by IBM and was called MAGI

in the 160’s there was aman called William Fetter

Wialliam Fetter was the first person to create a 3D model of a human figure and was the man who came up with the term computer graphics to describe this new method of design.

1970 –

In 1970 the very famous Pong arcade game was created by a man called Nolan Kay Bushnell and the first ever computer graphics film was created by John Whitney Jr and Gary Demos.

A man  named Edwin Catmull created texture mapping and a man named James Bhinn invented 3D curved surfaces and the environment and bump mapping which is the basis of 3D modelling today.

1980 –

The Disney Movie ‘Tron’ was created which was Disney’s first film that used 3D computer graphics.

Wavefron Tech created Polhemus the first 3D graphics software

Pixar created its first animation Tin Toy

The Nineteno home game system NES was created.

1990 –

Hanrahan and Lawson created a piece of software called Renderman and was used to creat the film Beauty and the Beast. Also in 1990 there was Steven Speilberg’s Jarrassic Park a hugely successful CG fiom. the film Toy Story was created one of the best 3D animation of its time.

2000 –

The world of computer graphics advantaged greatly with now huge ammounts of 3D softwares and now the use of High-Defintion Graphics.
